Shoreline fishing area open from January 1 through 2010

Advertiser Staff

The Department of Land and Natural Resources announced Tuesday that the Waikíkí-Diamond Head Shoreline Fisheries Management Area will be open from Jan. 1 through the end of 2010.

The area covers the ocean from the Waikíkí War Memorial Natatorium to the Diamond Head Lighthouse and about 500 yards out to sea.

The nearshore area that is closed this year has been managed for public fishing since 1978.

The department said permitted fishing methods include pole-and-line, throw-net and hand harvest. Spear fishing will be allowed only during daylight hours.
