Two forces for their respective teams, Moanalua running back Tahje Canyon and 'Aiea defensive tackle Lawrence Lagafuaina, took top honors in recent O'ahu Interscholastic Association White Conference all-star voting by league coaches.

Canyon, a 5-foot-10, 180-pound senior, was named Offensive Player of the Year and Lagafuaina was voted Defensive Player of the Year.

Canyon rushed for 1,439 yards and 18 touchdowns against OIA competition, averaging 130.8 yards per game and 7.3 yards per carry.

That included a season-high 279 yards and four touchdowns on 30 carries against Kaiser, 202 yards on 33 carries and the game-winning 40-yard TD reception in a 28-25 victory at Pearl City, 181 yards and two TDs on 19 rushes in the regular season finale against 'Aiea, and 110 yards on 29 carries against Radford, including the game-winning touchdown in double-overtime.

Canyon also scored the go-ahead TD on a 35-yard, fourth-quarter run against Kaläheo and ended the OIA season with 97 yards and one touchdown on 16 carries in another win over 'Aiea in the White championship game.

Lagafuaina, a 6-1, 310-pound senior, anchored Nä Ali'i's defensive line with his size and athleticism. 'Aiea allowed an average of 12.8 points per game against OIA White competition.

'Aiea, Radford and Waialua each landed three players on the first-team offense.

Nä Ali'i placed quarterback Freddie Taliulu, receiver Kekoa Thompson and offensive lineman George Noga. Radford was represented by receiver Zach Lagier, offensive lineman Monty Wright and utility player Phil Hogan.

Waialua placed receiver Branden Galapia and offensive linemen Micah Hatchie and Graham Rowley.

Canyon was joined by offensive lineman Frank Loyd, and Kaiser running back Josh Gonda rounds out the first- team offense.

Radford led the way with four players named to the first-team defense: lineman Wright, linebacker Tama Fiaseu and defensive backs Ikaika Kamaka and Kerry Patton.

'Aiea placed two others besides Lagafuaina: linebacker Rylen Fonoti and defensive back Chucky Ka'ahanui.

Moanalua and Waialua each was represented by two players on the first-team defense: Nä Menehune placed lineman Richard Villasenor and defensive back Xavier Peterson; Waialua placed lineman Rowley and defensive back Branden Galapia.

Kaiser defensive back Jesse Kauhola rounds out the first-team defense.

Moanalua's Arnold Martinez was named Coach of the Year after guiding Nä Menehune to 10 straight victories after a season-opening, non-league loss to Red Conference contender Mililani.
