Advertiser Staff

A man was critically injured Thursday night when he was hit by a vehicle while crossing Kihapai Street in Kailua.

Police said the accident happened near 157 Kihapai St. A 58-year-old man from Kailua was hit by a white Ford SUV about 7:50 p.m. He was taken to The Queen's Medical Center in critical condition. Police said the driver, a 32-year-old male also from Kailua, was not injured and that speed and alcohol were not factors.
Police closed Kihapai Street between Wailepo and Kawainui streets. Police vehicular homicide officers were dispatched to investigate the incident. The road was reopened about 10 p.m.
