Sakamoto pool in Wailuku still closed for repairs

Advertiser Staff

The County of Maui Department of Parks and Recreation announced Friday that the Coach Sakamoto pool will remain closed for an additional week and will reopen on Dec. 18.

Pool officials discovered a malfunction to pumps Dec. 4. The pool was scheduled to reopen Friday, but additional time will be needed for the repair.
The Sakamoto pool is located at 700 Halia Nakoa St. in Wailuku, next to the War Memorial Stadium and gymnasium. It was named after legendary swim coach Soichi Sakamoto who trained Olympic Champions in irrigation ditches in the 1930s and '40s.
