Student authors will be sharing pieces about the local environment at the My Hawaii Story Project fundraiser and celebration today at ING Direct Cafe.

The event begins at noon with a My Hawaii Fair featuring activities and educational materials for all ages, followed by a reading and reception for middle-school writers from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. The writers will be among those featured in the 2009 anthology of stories, poems and essays submitted to the My Hawaii Story Project contest.

A silent auction will be held throughout the event, featuring books, art, special nature tours and other special authors.

The contest, now in its third year, is sponsored by the Hawaii Conservation Alliance Foundation and The Pacific Writers' Connection. For more information on the contest, visit www.hawaiiconservation.org.
