Homeless woman's belongings set afire on Hotel Street

Advertiser Staff

The belongings of a homeless woman who lives near a bus stop on Hotel Street were set afire early this morning but she was not injured. The woman lives on the sidewalk fronting the District Court building on Hotel near Richards Street.

The woman, who asked that her name not be used because she is homeless, usually forms a sleeping shelter every night of grocery carts filled with her belongings and several large umbrellas.

She said she awoke at 12:30 a.m. Sunday and some of her carts were on fire. She also said she could smell gasoline.

She was able to extinguish the flames herself and was not injured.

The woman said police arrived, investigated the scene and took photographs.

The woman said she lives in fear of a vengeful ex-husband.
