Honolulu rail project gets additional $30M in federal funding

Honolulu’s rail transit project will receive $30 million in federal funding included under an omnibus spending package approved by Congress over the weekend.

The funding was included in a consolidated appropriations bill. Hawaiçi is expected to receive more than $387 million in total through the package, for a wide variety of projects and programs.
Overall the city expect to get $1.55 billon in federal grants to pay for the planned $5.5 billion, 20-mile rail. The $30 million in added funding brings Honolulu’s total federal take to $69 million so far.
