The hazy skies over Oahu today are the result of volcanic haze or “vog” that has been pushed up the island chain over the past couple of days by the light southeasterly “kona” winds.

The National Weather Service expects a cold front that is moving toward Kauai today to settle in over the Garden Island by tomorrow, bringing southwesterly winds with it.
The shift in wind direction should then result in clearing skies from tomorrow night into the weekend.
The cold front will also result in a resumption of the normal trade winds out of the northeast, forecasters said, which will blow the vog generated on the Big Island off to the southwest, further ending the hazy conditions on Maui and Oahu.
