CALIFORNIA-BOUND

Kahuku will have 15 wrestlers participating in the Liberty Union High School tournament Dec. 22 and 23 in Brentwood, Calif.

Red Raiders coach Reggie Torres said the trip is part of an exchange program with Liberty Union that has been going on for about eight years. Liberty Union, however, was unable to come to Hawai'i last year because of economic issues. Some 50 teams are usually entered in the Liberty Union tournament, Torres said.

Some of Kahuku's top wrestlers attending are Kalae Carr (fifth in state at 152 pounds in 2008) and Punahele Soriano (third at 171) for the boys, and Kristy Rabaino (fifth in 120) and Libby Petrie (fourth in 220) for the girls.

The O'ahu Interscholastic Association opens Jan. 2.
