Free Christmas tree recycling on Maui

Maui County’s Department of Environmental Management, Recycle Maui County program announced today that it will be sponsoring free recycling of Christmas trees in an effort to preserve the life of landfills.

Christmas tress may be dropped off at Maui EKO Compost at the Central Maui Landfill on Pulehu Road, open Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 6 a.m. to 4 p.m. and on Tuesday, Thursday, Saturday and Sunday from 7 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.

Trees may also be dropped off in West Maui at the Olowalu Recycling and Refuse Center three miles south of Lahaina. Hours are Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday from 7 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. and Sunday from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Trees must be undecorated and free of all ornaments, lights, hooks, tinsel, etc. at the time of dropoff.

The Maui Fundraisers Wailuku Softball team is offering a curbside collection of Christmas trees on Jan. 3 for a $10 minimum donation.

Reservations are required for curbside pickup and must be made by Dec. 31 by calling 808-280-8547.
