Lawmakers to discuss elder abuse, neglect at briefing

Lawmakers will hold an informational briefing Tuesday on elder care in the Islands.

The briefing of will discuss elder abuse, neglect and financial exploitation.

"By 2020, one in four Hawaiçi residents will be over the age of 60, thus it's essential that we review 'best practices' for elder care," said state Rep. John Mizuno, chairman of the House Human Services Committee. "We must also better address elder abuse and financial exploitation, which may raise with the number of seniors."

The briefing will kick off at 10:30 a.m. in room 329 at the state Capitol.
