Oahu residents reminded to recycle Christmas trees

Advertiser Staff

The city’s Department of Environmental Services is asking residents to recycle their Christmas trees after the holidays.

Households with city collection can place bare trees – without flocking, ornaments and tinsel – curbside as part of the normal green-waste pickup.
The city provides curbside green-waste collection to more than 160,000 homes on Oahu. Most areas use the green cart system, while others place it in bags or bundles.
For those areas that utilize green carts, trim and cut trees so they fit inside the cart with the lid closed. For residents who use the bag collection system, cut and bundle trees to three-foot lengths and place curbside on your normal green-waste collection day.
For condo residents, trees may be dropped off at any refuse convenience center or directly to the composting facility – there is no tip fee charged for Christmas trees over the holidays.
