Investigators can't pinpoint cause of blaze in garage

Advertiser Staff

Fire investigators have been unable to determine the cause of a blaze that heavily damaged the garage area of a Waikele home on Monday.

The fire at 94-1070 Lelehu St. was reported at 4:55 p.m. Fire Capt. Terry Seelig said a child at the home smelled smoke, went outside and saw smoke in the garage.

Firefighters brought the blaze under control shortly before 5:30 and had it extinguished at about 6. Seelig said an adult and two children were home when the fire broke out, but all escaped without injury.

The fire was confined to the garage and caused an estimated $200,000 in damage. Seelig said a car in the driveway also was damaged.

Seelig said the investigator has listed the cause as "undetermined," meaning the case is closed unless more information surfaces.
