Interim elections chief to be selected

Associated Press

An interim replacement for the state’s chief elections officer is to be selected by the state Elections Commission.

The panel is to meet Wednesday via videoconference to name Kevin Cronin’s replacement. He is resigning Thursday, after less than two years on the job.
The commission will also select members of a search committee to find a permanent replacement.
Two of Cronin’s deputies are potential candidates for both the interim and permanent positions.
The search for a new chief elections officer comes as Hawaii prepares for next year’s regular elections, as well as a special election to fill the remainder of the term of Rep. Neil Abercrombie. He’s running in the Democratic primary for governor.
