Service scheduled for cancer crusader Pablo

Advertiser Staff

A memorial service for Chris Pablo, who died of cancer earlier this month, will be held Jan. 8 at St. Andrew's Cathedral.

Visitation will be from 3 to 6 p.m., with the service to follow. Afterward, a reception will be held in the church hall.

His ashes will be scattered privately the following morning.

Pablo died Dec. 9. He was 59.

After surviving leukemia after a bone marrow transplant in 1996, he had become devoted to raising awareness in the fight against cancer and often counseled other patients.

He lived cancer-free for more years than he ever expected, but was struck by two separate cancers in the last 18 months of his life.

Pablo's friends and colleagues have established a college education fund at the Bank of Hawaii for his two youngest sons. It will be available after Jan. 1.
