In March, the three-masted barca B.E. Cuauhtemoc sailed into Honolulu Harbor on a goodwill tour that would take the Mexican training ship to China, South Korea, Russia, Japan and the Mainland.

As the ship neared port, many of its crew, cadets at Mexico's Heroic Naval Military School, scrambled aloft.
Advertiser photographer Richard Ambo was there and captured the striking image.
A collection of some of the most memorable images of 2009 — from the Eddie Aikau big-wave surfing event, to the drydocking of the Mighty Mo, to the aftermath of the deadly tsunami in Samoa — has been posted online in our photo galleries.
