Hunter killed in fall identified as Kaneohe man

Advertiser Staff

A goat hunter who died after falling 100 feet in the mountains above Ke'eau Homestead Road in Wai'anae Sunday has been identified as Eric Sawchuk of Kane'ohe.

Sawchuk, 41, was hunting with a friend when he fell. Police said his hunting partner heard a tumbling sound and ran to the edge of a cliff and saw Sawchuk falling. The man went down to Sawchuk, but was unable to revive him.

A Honolulu Fire Department rescue team and a helicopter retrieved Sawchuk's body from a ledge at about 10:10 a.m. Sunday. The city medical examiner's office said Sawchuk died of cranial cerebral trauma from a fall.
