High surf advisory posted for east-facing shores

Advertiser Staff

The National Weather Service has posted a high surf advisory for east-facing shores on Kauai, Oahu, Molokai, Maui and the Big Island.

The advisory will take effect at 6 a.m. today and remain in place through 6 p.m. this evening, the Weather Service said.

Surf along the affected shorelines is expected to be 6 to 8 feet today.

Elsewhere on Oahu today, look for surf of 7 to 12 feet along north-facing shores, 4 to 6 feet along west-facing shores and 2 feet or less along south-facing shores.

Outlook through Monday, Feb. 9: A long-period northwest swell will boost surf above advisory levels again Thursday night into Saturday. Fresh trade winds and an increasing north-northeast swell will produce rough, short period surf near the 8-foot advisory level for the next few days on the windward shores.
