All-state football player indicted for kidnapping, sexual assault

Rico Newman, an all-state football player from Leilehua High School, has been indicted on charges of kidnapping and sexual assault.

According to court documents, Newman allegedly had a verbal argument with his ex-girlfriend that escalated into a violent incident.

Newman rushed for 427 yards and nine touchdowns, and had 75 catches for 813 yards and eight touchdowns this past season. He also returned kickoffs and was one of the better punters in the state.

He won first-team recognition as a multipurpose player.
