Advertiser Staff

A 50-year-old California man apparently drowned yesterday afternoon on Kaua'i.

Kaua'i police tentatively identified the man as a resident of Mission Viejo, Calif.

Police said the man was snorkeling in front of the Marriott Waiohai Beach Club in Po'ipu when he got into trouble. Lifeguards spotted him and were able to put him on a board and paddle back to shore.

The lifeguards performed CPR before he was transported to Wilcox Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
