Lingle asks legislators to delay budget deadlines

Advertiser Staff

Gov. Linda Lingle said today that it is premature for her to propose an update to the state's two-year budget until the state Council on Revenues updates the revenue forecast again in March.

Lingle said she would ask state House and Senate leaders to possibly delay their internal budget deadlines so they can better respond to the unusual circumstances of the recession.

State lawmakers have been critical of the governor for not being more specific about how to close a substantial budget deficit.
