Punahou nearly sweeps state paddling championships

By Christie Wilson

Punahou School's girls paddling team and a mixed Punahou girl-boy team won their divisions in the High School Paddling State Championship today at Hanakao'o Beach Park in Lahaina.

The Punahou girls easily won their half-mile race with a time of 4:23:56, which was more than six seconds ahead of their closest competitor from Anuenue School.

The time of 3:57:54 from the mixed team of Punahou boys and girls defeated Kalaheo High School's second place time of 4:01:00.

But the Punahou boys' team could not bring back a clean sweep after Kamehameha Schools-Maui's team edged out the Punahou boys by 45 hundreths of a second, with a time of 3:45:29.
