MAPUNAPUNA
State officials to dedicate Pu'uloa Road project

State transportation officials today will dedicate the $15.9 million Pu'uloa Road improvement project between Salt Lake Boulevard and Nimitz Highway.

The purpose of the project was to widen the road to make it safer for motorists, bicyclists and pedestrians.

Improvements included additional turning lanes, bicycle lanes, retaining walls, sidewalks and drainage structures on both sides of Pu'uloa.

Workers also relocated utility lines and installed new traffic signals and highway lighting, new concrete bus pad turnouts and a 90-stall parking lot.

The parking lot is located on the west side of Pu'uloa between Mokumoa Place and Mapunapuna Place.

The project began in July 2005 and was built by Goodfellow Brothers.
