KAUA'I
Waimea church latest nonprofit to be burgled

The West Kauai United Methodist Church last week became the latest nonprofit to be burglarized, following recent break-ins at the Kaua'i Food Bank and Salvation Army.

Intruders broke into the church sometime from Feb. 1 to Feb. 3, tearing off a window facing the kitchen sink.

Jose Bulatao, the church's administrative board chairman, said only food was taken.

Late last month, burglars broke into the Kaua'i Food Bank in Nawiliwili and stole about $241 in cash after grinding off a safe door.

Also in January, someone broke into the Salvation Army in Lihu'e and stole money from a cash register.
