Okino falls short in qualifying

Punahou School sophomore Cyd Okino failed to earn one of the two spots available for this week's SBS Open at Turtle Bay.

Okino shot a 7-over-par 79 during the SBS Open Monday Qualifier at the Arnold Palmer Course.

She was one of 10 who advanced out of Sunday's prequalifer at the Fazio Course. Okino shot a 76 Sunday.

Janell Howland of Boise, Idaho, and Angela Jerman of Columbus, Ga., earned the two spots for the event, which starts Thursday at Turtle Bay.

Howland shot a 3-under 69 and Jerman a 1-under 71.

The event will feature Punahou graduate Michelle Wie, making her 2009 LPGA debut.

Also entered are Morgan Pressel, Paula Creamer, Natalis Gulbis, Karrie Webb, Angela Park, Laura Davies and Turtle Bay's Dorothy Delasin.
