KAINALIU
Roadwork will close portions of Mamalahoa

Night roadwork this month on portions of Mamalahoa Highway in Kainaliu will cause lane closures, traffic delays and parking restrictions from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m. weekdays.

One lane will be closed to traffic during these hours and motorists should plan on 10- to 20-minute delays, according to the county Department of Public Works. No on-street parking will be allowed during the roadwork.

Today, tomorrow and Friday, and picking up again on Monday and Tuesday, contractor Goodfellow Bros. Inc. will be excavating along both shoulders of the highway, starting at the north end of Kainaliu town between Aloha Theatre and at Kainaliu Gardens.

From Feb. 18 to 20, the excavation work will move to the southern end of town between Sandy's Drive Inn and Kadooka Nursery.

Resurfacing starting from the north end of town is expected to begin late in the month and continue into early March, the county said.

The project is part of $1.5 million in traffic improvements in North Kona that include parking and sidewalk upgrades to meet requirements for the American Disabilities Act. Construction is scheduled for completion in April.

For project updates, call the county hot line at 334-9559.
