MAKIKI
Catholic Charities starts work on new facility

Catholic Charities Hawaii will break ground this morning on a $28 million renovation of the former First Presbyterian Church in Makiki.

The new community service facility will be called the Catholic Charities Hawaii Clarence T.C. Ching Campus. It will be used to consolidate Catholic Charities' services in one place, a 2.2-acre site at Ke'eaumoku and Nehoa streets. The Clarence T.C. Ching Foundation last year made a $5 million donation — the largest single donation to Catholic Charities in its 61-year history — to help fund the renovation.

Catholic Charities purchased the property three years ago and has been raising money for this project.
