Police looking for leads in Hilo-area burglaries

Advertiser Staff

The Hawaii Police Department is asking for the public's help in solving two burglaries in the North Hilo District earlier this month.

On Feb. 4, someone broke into a house along Highway 19 in Ninole and stole a television, a DVD/VCR player, two firearms and a jewelry box containing jewelry. A charcoal-gray Mazda pickup truck was seen on the home's driveway the day before the burglary.

On Feb. 6, someone broke into a storage room at the old O'okala hospital on the old Mamalahoa Highway and removed four weed trimmers, four Dodge tires and rims, a torch set with tanks, and a red girl's-style bicycle.

Police ask that anyone with information about the persons responsible or the location of the stolen items call Officer Amacias Valdez at 962-2120 or the Police Department's non-emergency line at 935-3311. Tipsters who prefer to remain anonymous may call Crime Stoppers at 961-8300 in Hilo or 329-8181 in Kona. All Crime Stoppers information is kept confidential.
