KAPOLEI
Tornado damage at golf course more than $200K

A tornado that swept through the Kapolei Golf Course Wednesday afternoon caused more than $200,000 in damage to the facility, according to golf operations manager and head golf professional Ken Terao.

Much of the work is expected to come in replacing clubhouse awning and roof tiling, Terao said, noting that the awning materials need to be shipped in from abroad. Plants including Manila palms and hibiscus bushes also need to be replaced, he said.

Additionally, about $6,700 in revenue was lost when the golf course shut down for about an hour in the wake of the 1 p.m. incident.

A screen or two blew off and lawn furniture was strewn about, but no real damage done to the Kekuilani Village condominium overlooking the golf course, said Greg Peterson, Villages of Kapolei Association president.
