Snowboarding: White, Clark win World Cup halfpipe events

WEST VANCOUVER, British Columbia — Shaun White won the halfpipe competition at the World Cup snowboard event at Cypress Mountain today.

White, who rarely competes on the World Cup circuit, won with a score of 47.3 points. World Cup leader Ryoh Aono of Japan finished second with 44.8 and Switzerland's Iouri Podladtchikov was third with 44.3.

In the women's event, Kelly Clark completed of the halfpipe for the United States, winning with a score of 42.6 points. Jiayu Liu of China was second with 39.0 points and American Hannah Teter was third with 38.8 points.

The event on Cypress, which will host the snowboard and freestyle skiing events during next year's Vancouver Olympics, is being used as a test event for the Winter Games.
