Gusty trade winds in store through President's Day holiday

Advertiser Staff

The gusty trade winds and showers in windward and mauka areas will continue through today, according to the National Weather Service.

Wind has calmed enough that the weather service was able to drop the wind advisory for the Ka'u and Kohala areas of the Big Island and for Kaho'olawe and the summits of Haleakala on Maui.

The weather will hold through the week, but by the week's end, unstable conditions may persist, according to weather forecasters.

The gale warning has been canceled for the Alenuihaha Channel and for the waters near South Point. But the small craft advisory remains in effect for all waters through 6 a.m. tomorrow. A high surf advisory will be in effect until 6 p.m. tonight for Kaua'i, Windward-O'ahu, parts of Moloka'i and Maui and the Big Island.
