Taste of Iraq teleconference for military families set for Thursday at Schofield

On Thursday evening at Schofield Barracks, families of soldiers in the U.S. Army Second Brigade stationed in Iraq will get a taste of the food of that country in a special video teleconference.

Dependents have been invited by the Army to watch a screening during which an Iraqi recipe will be demonstrated by a cultural adviser from Contingency Operating Base Speicher near Tikrit, Iraq. Attendees will be able to interact with him and ask questions via satellite.

Kole Miller, who is helping organize the event, is getting a sneak peek at the recipe today and plans to prepare samples to be served there.

Miller said the idea is to make a hometown connection so dependents have a better idea of what their family members may be experiencing and of the culture in which they are serving.

This is one of a series of such Q&A teleconferences for family members.
