Lim reaches consolation semifinal

Punahou senior Kristin Lim, who has won the past two state high school singles championships, reached the semifinal of the consolation round yesterday at the USTA Boys and Girls 18 National Open at the Central O'ahu Regional Park Tennis Complex.

Lim defeated Tiffany Mai, 6-4, 6-1, then got by Elena Najera-Salas, 6-2, 6-2. Both her opponents are from California.

Lim will play another Californian, Samantha Critser, today at 9 a.m. The winner advances to the consolation championship at 10:30 a.m., against the winner of the match between Sarah Lee and Katie Le.

No other Hawai'i players remain in the tournament.

In the main draw, the top two boys seeds lost yesterday, with Clay Thompson beating No. 1 Walker Kehrer, 5-7, 6-1, 6-1. Second-seeded Warren Hardie fell to Evan Song, 6-2, 2-6, 6-2.

Boys and girls singles finals will be played at 9 a.m., followed by doubles finals today.
