Police, city probe death of man who may have been electrocuted near UH

Advertiser Staff

Police and the city are investigating the death of a man who suffered an "unknown problem" at the corner of University and Kapiolani avenues last night.

The man was identified as Michael Perron, Jr., 42, of Honolulu.

Witnesses told police they believed Perron may have been electrocuted by some city-owned wiring in the vicinity.

But police and a spokesman for the city Emergency Service Department could not confirm the reports today.

"First of all, we want to express our sincere condolences to the family of Michael Perron," city Managing Director Kirk Caldwell said in a statement released late this afternoon.

"The Department of Facility Maintenance is investigating the incident, and we are awaiting the results of the additional studies to be performed by the Medical Examiner."

The autopsy on the victim provided no conclusive results.

In a statement, the medical examiner said Perron's cause of death was being "deferred pending further investigation and studies."
