Ma'ili house fire caused by unattended cooking

A fire that destroyed a home in Ma'ili Tuesday was caused by unattended cooking, according to the Honolulu Fire Department.

The blaze at 87-908 Ho'okele Place was reported at 2:35 p.m., brought under control at 2:52 and extinguished at 3 p.m. Two adults and four children lived in the single-story home. No one was injured in the fire, which caused about $250,000 in damage.

A fire investigator has classified the cause as "accidental" from unattended cooking.
