NFL: Tackle Carey signs multiyear deal with Dolphins

Associated Press

MIAMI — Tackle Vernon Carey signed a multiyear contract extension with the Miami Dolphins and won't become an unrestricted free agent next week, the team said today.

Carey, the team's first-round draft choice in 2004, has started 59 games in a row. The signing means the Dolphins are set at tackle, with 2008 top pick Jake Long returning on the left side.

The Dolphins still hope to upgrade the middle of their line this offseason.

Miami has four players set to become unrestricted free agents — linebacker Channing Crowder, cornerback Andre Goodman and safeties Yeremiah Bell and Renaldo Hill.
