Prep basketball: Farrington beats Roosevelt to win OIA girls title

By Ann Miller
Advertiser Staff Writer

Farrington flew toward its first O'ahu Interscholastic Association girls basketball championship since 1991 with perpetual motion, then clinched its title with a final quarter of deliberate brilliance today, pulling away to beat pesky Roosevelt, 71-50, before some 600 at the McKinley Student Council Gym.

The Rough Riders (11-7), No. 10 in The Advertiser's Top 10, upset the third-ranked Governors (18-1) earlier in the playoffs. That forced Farrington to play seven games in 11 days for its elusive title. The Govs knocked off Roosevelt Thursday to set up last night's winner-take-all final.
