Expect choppy surf today

Surf conditions will remain choppy with heights near the high-surf advisory level of eight feet, but may increase late Tuesday, according to the National Weather Service.

A northeast swell is still far northeast of the Islands. That combined with local wind waves is producing rough and choppy seas.

The latest Mokapu buoy observations show a steady wave height of about eight feet, according to the National Weather Service.

However, this north northeast swell off to the north of the state raises the potential for moderate surges in harbors with exposed entrances to the north and northeast, especially Hilo and Kahului.
