Man tries to walk out of jewelry store with watch

A man tried to steal a watch from an Ala Moana jewelry store without paying for it, according to police.

The man, who is in his 20s, entered the store yesterday at 10:15 a.m. and asked to see high-end watches. The clerk led the man to the back of the store, where he was shown the watch he wanted. He tried to leave the store, wearing the watch, but a store security guard tried to stop him.

The man and the security guard fought and a struggle ensued, police said. The man tried to pull out a knife from his waistband but the security guard disarmed him. The man dropped the watch, broke free and fled the store on foot, police said. The case has been referred the Honolulu Police Department's robbery detail.
