If you've never gone 8 miles by foot in your life, the annual Great Aloha Run can seem daunting.

Such was the case for more than half the team of women from Hawaii Moms LikeMe.com who did the Great Aloha run on Monday. They joined 20,000 people at sunrise to tackle the course from Aloha Tower to Aloha Stadium.

And there were more challenges: Almost half the team had only chatted online before and had never met in person. Also, several women brought their children — including one mom who brought her husband and seven keiki.

But they were excited and eager, and all finished the full course smiling. The moms were taking a step for their health, setting an example for their children, and helping to spread the word about Hawaii Moms LikeMe.com, the Advertiser's Web site for moms.

The YWCA of Honolulu sponsored the team, providing members with team shirts and goodie bags.

One mom who goes by the screen name tripleS said she felt a "sense of accomplishment" at finishing the Great Aloha Run since she had never before attempted any kind of distance event.

Another mom who calls herself mrsacos said she was "very proud to have been a part of it! It was such a great time."
