Several fire companies, a rescue team and the city fireboat responded to a report of a fire aboard an Atlantis tourist submarine this morning at Pier 40, which is located near the intersection of Waiakamilo Road and Nimitz Highway.

Fire Capt. Earle Kealoha said firefighters were sent out on the call about 6 a.m. and used a thermal imaging camera to pinpoint the location of the fire near an electrical panel aboard the sub.

An on-board Halon firefighting system was then used to extinguish the fire, Kealoha said.

City firefighters remained at the scene to make sure the fire was completely extinguished.

An Atlantis employee complaining of throat irritation was examined at the scene by city paramedics, but was not transported to a hospital, Kealoha said.

A damage estimate and suspected cause of the fire were not immediately available.
