Mardi Gras — Carnaval 2009 takes over Nuuanu Avenue tomorrow night

Advertiser Staff

For some, Fat Tuesday is the last day to party before Lent, but even if you're not giving anything up, you're still invited to take in the Mardi Gras – Carnaval 2009 street party on Nuuanu Avenue tomorrow.

From 6 to 10 p.m., the Honolulu Culture & Arts District masquerade as New Orleans with parades from 7 to 9 p.m. featuring floats, samba dancers, Brazilian percussion groups and costume contest entrants.

Meanwhile, three stages will feature entertainment headlined by D.J. Sabo from New York and Delta Skelta with DeShannon Higa and David Choy.

Restaurants will have specials for the occasion, including Alligator Chili at Murphy's and King Cake at Du Vin. Target is donating free malassadas from Leonard's Bakery.

Costumes are encouraged along with beads galore.
