Motorcyclist killed in H-1 crash identified

Advertiser Staff

A motorcyclist who was fatally injured in a crash Sunday afternoon on the H-1 Freeway in Kaimuki has been identified by the city Department of the Medical Examiner as Willie Davis, 35, of Kapolei.

Davis was an Air Force technical sergeant who was a 15th Airlift Wing Command Post controller at Hickarm Air Force Base, the Air Force said.

Witnesses told police vehicular homicide investigators that Davis was traveling at 100 mph or more in the westbound lanes of the freeway about 4:20 p.m. when he appeared to lose control, veer to the right side and strike a guardrail just before the 7th Avenue overpass.

Davis, who was wearing a helmet, was thrown from the 2008 Suzuki motorcycle and was struck by a Honda Civic driven by a 54-year-old Honolulu woman.

Davis was taken to The Queen's Medical Center in critical condition and was pronounced dead at 5:06 p.m., police said.

A memorial service for family and friends will be held at 9:30 a.m. Friday at Nelles Chapel on Hickam Air Force Base.
