Firefighters this afternoon declared that a brushfire on the flank of Waiawa Ridge was contained as of about 4:30 p.m.

The fire burned an estimated 35 acres, fire department spokesman Capt. Terry Seelig said.

Some pockets remain smoldering, Seelig said.

The fire was reported about 3:35 p.m. Monday in a steep, remote area.
