Advertiser Staff

A 21-year-old Wailuku man was critically injured yesterday after he was struck by a car driven by an 85-year-old man while standing near a recycling truck in Napili, Maui police reported.

A 16-year-old girl and 37-year-old woman, both from Lahaina, were also struck by the same vehicle in the 1 p.m. incident, but their injuries were deemed to be non-life-threatening, police said.

The injured were taken to Maui Memorial Medical Center.

Impairment of the driver by drugs or alcohol is being investigated as is standard procedure in such cases, but is not immediately suspected in this case, police said.
