NFL: Surgeon: Brady's team fought knee infection well

By OSKAR GARCIA
Associated Press Writer

LAS VEGAS — A top sports surgeon says that doctors caring for New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady after knee surgery will likely see excellent results despite an infection.

Dr. James Andrews, a Birmingham, Ala.-based orthopedist for elite athletes, says Brady's doctors were aggressive in finding and treating the infection after his operation. He says preventing Brady's infection was nearly impossible, no matter how good the doctors are.

Andrew spoke as part of a medical panel on Wednesday that said doctors are seeing more children — especially girls — suffer knee injuries as they spend more time playing sports without time off.

Brady was injured in the Patriots' 2008 season opener and has not given a timetable for his return to the field.
