CU, HPU split in basketball

Noah Gottlieb and Mohamed Tangara each scored 14 points to lead four teammates in double figures as Chaminade defeated Hawai'i Pacific, 86-69, last night in a non-conference men's basketball game at McCabe gym.

Joel Smith, Cartier Carter and Rickey Clayborn scored 13 points apiece, and Darrell Birton added 11 for the Silverswords (14-9).

Mike Helton and Adrian den Dulk each scored 16 points for the Sea Warriors (9-13).

In the women's game, Tiffany Wilson had team highs of 25 points and seven rebounds to lead the Sea Warriors (12-13) to a 75-55 victory.

Jasmine Dulan had 15 points and 10 rebounds, Arielle Salvador added 14 points and Samantha Saito 13 points for the Silverswords (0-23).

UH WINDS UP 11TH

The Rainbow Wahine finished 11th out of 13 teams at the fifth annual Fresno State Lexus Classic yesterday at Copper River Country Club. Hawai'i senior Carolina Perez shot a final-round 74 to take eighth place at 4-over-par 220.

Kaua'i's Miki Ueoka, a sophomore at Santa Clara, went wire to wire to win medalist honors with 72—209.

As a team, Hawai'i fired rounds of 306-313-324 for a 943 total. UC Irvine won at 27-over 891, a shot better than USF.

UH junior Corie Hou (81—235) got a share of 38th, while senior Phyllis Lai (82—244) and junior Erin Matsuoka (87—244) tied for 57th.
