CBKB: Bowling Green and Buffalo set overtime record

Associated Press

BUFFALO, N.Y. — Bowling Green and Buffalo combined to set an NCAA record for points in an overtime period as the two teams scored 39 in the Falcons' 89-82 win Wednesday night.

The 39 points surpassed the old mark of 36 set by Maine and Stetson on Dec. 30, 1989.

With the game tied at 66 at the end of regulation, the two teams got off to a blistering pace in the overtime. Buffalo hit its first six shots from the field, including two 3-pointers by Jamie Schiebner.

Bowling Green had an answer as Tracy Pontius hit five straight 3-pointers in the extra period. She scored 17 of her 27 points in overtime.

Her last 3-pointer broke an 82-all tie.

Buffalo couldn't match that shot and Bowling Green hit its free throws down the stretch to seal the win.

Kourtney Brown led Buffalo with 30 points and a career-high 14 rebounds.
