MLB: Media urge unsealing of juror data in Bonds trial

Associated Press

SAN FRANCISCO — Media companies are urging a federal judge to allow access to completed questionnaires by potential jurors in Barry Bonds' perjury trial.

U.S. District Judge Susan Illston has ordered the completed questionnaires sealed.

On Thursday, The Associated Press, ESPN, Hearst Corp., The New York Times Co., ABC-subsidiary KGO, KNTV Television Inc., NBC subsidiary KNBC-TV, The Los Angeles Times and Sports Illustrated publisher Time Inc. filed court papers arguing for public access to the forms.

The questionnaires are designed to root out bias in selecting a jury. They ask potential jurors more than 60 questions including their opinion of Bonds and whether they've been following the steroids issue in sports.

The trial is scheduled to begin Monday.
