Hawaiian Airlines said it has reached a tentative agreement with its unionized flight attendants on a new two-year contract.

The state's largest airline said the pact would provide increased compensation for its flight attendants and "operational improvements for the company."

The employees covered by the contract are members of the Association of Flight Attendants.

"One of our core objectives is to find ways to improve the standard of living of our employees at Hawaiian. The ability to work collaboratively with the AFA-CWA as we all face the worst recession in the last 50 years has enabled us to reach an agreement that will actually increase pay for our valued flight attendants while helping to improve the performance of our company," said Mark Dunkerley, Hawaiian's president and chief executive officer.

The tentative agreement is subject to ratification by the company's flight attendants, who are expected to vote on the proposal in the coming weeks.
